This list describes my ideal house in the woods, my ultimate goal. ‘Cabin’ doesn’t seem an appropriate name for it, since it needs to be big enough to house and entertain all my visitors.

• My house will be built into a hill and just look like a grassy knoll from the North.
• It will have a two story wall of glass facing South.
• There will be a great room, for living, cooking and eating.
• A little loft area will be tucked away, barely visible, and only accessible to children.
• A geodesic green house will be attached and full of herbs and veggies.
• It will be totally surrounded by trees, private enough to enjoy your morning coffee naked on the deck.
• The shower will be outside.
• There will be wifi access of course.
• There will be room for all of you!

In the winter all the snow from the laneway would be dumped into a giant pile and my dad would carve out the best forts ever.

We only had five channels, no internet and my mom made us go outside all the time. I credit this for my imagination, my independence and my love of outdoors.

My mom has a pretty distinct walk—if I could just see her skeleton walking, I would still know it was her. One hand on her purse strap near her shoulder and the other swinging enthusiastically. Sometimes I catch myself walking like her and laugh.

Now that it’s warmer out, walking is a pretty simple joy that I am happy to participate in.

As mentioned earlier, I moved here two and half years ago from Canada. Canada will always be my true love, but I have to thank America (specifically Utah) for some of the wonderful things it’s shown me:

• delicious Mexican food on every block
• mountains only 20 minutes away
• the surreal world of Moab
• an excellent selection of beer
• cheaper airfare
• the State Fair
• and of course the amazing people I’ve met here, you know who you are

Just now, when outside with my dog, I could smell spring—cold mud, melting snow—and there were actually crocuses poking out through the dirt in front of our building. It gave me flashbacks to spring on the farm, and I remembered taking photos of streams made of melted snow running over the stones in the laneway. For some reason it struck me as so beautiful that here I am, twenty years later, remembering it. The changing seasons always give me a  good, tingly belly.

The photos of course didn’t do the scene justice, I have never had a talent for photography, and probably my excitement for spring coloured the moment. It would be nice to still have them though.

I saw this photo on another blog and had to track it down. I can feel the cold air on my cheeks and hear the snow under my boots. I am totally romanticising winter.

It was so nice to see the rest of the album is beautiful too! Lovely clothes and wandering around outside. Two of the best things.

Yes please. Sweden is on my list of places to visit, I do believe I will stay in a treehouse when I go there.

This is where my grandparents used to live. One summer a chunk of iceberg broke off and floated into the cove where we could touch it. It was the size of a washing machine by the time it reached us but my siblings and I were still super excited because we were 10ish years old.
