Typetester

http://www.typetester.org/ is a very useful tool for comparing fonts. Very, very useful.

This is the future my friends, explained in a great video.

Dear Print Designers, This is How You Should Design for the Web

Compared to print — which is at least 1800 years old — web design is new. If you learned about design in school, you probably didn’t learn very much about web design. If you have been designing solely for print for the past x number of years, there are most likely assumptions being made or questions needing answers.

If we go over a few things that you already know, don’t fret or be offended. There is surely someone else who will read this that didn’t know it. (more…)

Wabi-sabi1 Comment »

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese world view or aesthetic whose principals are great for design of anything.

  • asymmetry
  • simplicity
  • modesty
  • intimacy
  • natural process
  • elegance

+ one of my own:

  • heart

I have had that list on a sticky note stuck on my monitor for almost a year now, it is calming and helpful whether I’m designing or coding.

960.gs

960.gs is a useful tool for designing websites. As I mentioned yesterday, math is very useful when designing. Even if only to make sure all your margins are exactly 30px, not to be anal — but because it created visual consistency and  is easier on the eyes of your users.
