These sites really are useful though, well designed and you don’t get overwhelmed by ads. 

On mint.com you can hook up to your bank accounts and credit cards and it organizes your spending. You create your own budgets for different items and it will alert you with a text or email when your balance gets low or you exceed your monthly budget in a specific category.

smartypig.com I am less familiar with but it looks pretty great so far. Happy Cog designed it so we know it is going to function well. Saving and then buying sounds much better than racking up high interest debt.
